2021 will be my ninth 50/90 and this time you can expect a few changes from me. I've completely reorganised my setup since last time and my gear is no longer crammed under a bunk bed. Instead, when last year's challenge finished I finally got round to installing the "proper" studio desk that I'd been promising myself for two decades. It's amazing how much better monitors sound when they're not sitting directly underneath a mattress. Best of all, I have finally put the days when I would cut my head open on the bed when I stood up without checking where I was behind me for good!
A number of health issues mean that I've more or less retired. I've been spending all that free time making music all year, and I've been releasing an album on Bandcamp more or less every month. I thought taking part in Fifty/Ninety and FAWM were good for polishing your chops, but working continuously on music seven days a week at a proper studio desk has taken things to a different level entirely. I've been amazed just what a difference it has made to my recordings.
But my aim is the same: I want to make the sort of music that teenaged me dreamt of making, all those decades ago. I think he'd be impressed by how far I've come.
Should you wish to do so, you can watch what I get up to: more than a year after I started live streaming on Twitch, I'm still doing shows on Sundays and Thursdays.
My gear list got much too complicated to describe here, so it now lives on the page linked below, which also has more about my musical history.
