AKA--rayboneor, life without budgies
What's your songwriting philosophy? You don't have to be an architect or a carpenter to make driftwood forts that will be consumed by the sea.
How do you react to being called an iconoclast? I'm a failed conformist--which can come across as rebellion
You found your sound 'cause you can't play no better? Yes, and because I'm bad at recording
How do you decide what "tag" to put on your "songs"? Look, I came of musical age in Indiana in the 80s. I liked "underground" music, which included pretty much anything that was "cool" far away from Indiana. Like: Bob Marley, The Specials, Bowie, Sex Pistols, Aztec Camera, Stray Cats, The Smiths, Nina Hagen. Underground was more an attitude in my mind than a genre. All my "music" is underground in this sense, even if it sounds like Gordon Lightfoot.
Doesn't that last answer contradict what you said about being a failed conformist? Maybe...but all those underground artists were making pop music, I believe
What are you talking about? I'm the Justin Bieber of my generation, or the Sid Vicious of Justin Bieber's generation, or the Die Antwoord of the Napoleonic era--but people don't understand.
No, I get it. No further questions.
