One Hit Wonder

Liner Notes:

I had it in mind to do several other skirmishes but my brain and my own time couldn't make deadline at the given time, but I did want to get this one in.
I like the idea that came to me from a TV commercial ad about one hit wonder singer's and their songs in one of those collections. Had to do a little research on who to pick out as some of the artists are a little before my time but their music still plays on and is timeless.

I'm sure we all have favorites from the 60's, 70's , 80's ,90's and maybe even today. Didn't mention any newer artists that hit big at least once and then dropped off but then I can't include everybody. What I did here was basically a list song of artist's from different decades and the title of a song they did people might remember.

Meant to be nostalgic and fun.

Lyrics:

One hit wonder

Does anyone remember the Contours
How about Venus and Shocking Blues
Looking Glass and Brandy
Pilot's Magic in music news
Lipps Inc. and Funky Town
Gary Numan's Cars
Whip it with Devo
Just to name a few stars

Whatever happened to so and so
I can't remember every name
With that great single recording
Attributed to fame
Singers disappeared fast
After creating such thunder
As the radio still plays the songs
Of that one hit wonder

Can we steal away with Robbie Dupree
Are the Mary Jane Girls in my house
Georgia Satellites rock
At least I hear that from my spouse
I can't wait for Nu Shooz
Spandau Ballet's true
All are just a few
I still will listen to

Whatever happened to so and so
I can't remember every name
With that great single recording
Attributed to fame
Singers disappeared fast
After creating such thunder
As the radio still plays the songs
Of that one hit wonder

The list is endless
But I often stop to think
About those famous songs
Where the artist's gone in a blink

Whatever happened to so and so
I can't remember every name
With that great single recording
Attributed to fame
Singers disappeared fast
After creating such thunder
As the radio still plays the songs
Of that one hit wonder

Please keep your comments respectful, honest, and constructive. Please focus on the song and not the demo.

This is really great! I have a pretty big palate of musical tastes, but nope........only even ever heard of a handful of these, though I'd probably recognize their big "hit" tune Biggrin I rarely even pay attention to band names unless I want to hear more later hahah.

nice take with the prompt too! wondering about those one hit wonders Biggrin

Seriously nostalgic! I came to pop late, and it was the songs that hooked me. never paid much attention to individual bands of the one-hitters or names so I didn't even remember them when they were actually around. Quite amazing to trawl back through youtube, wiki and billboard now and realise "oh! they were them!"
Clever and nostalgic lyric.

Some of these, and many other one hit wonders contributed so much to my musical education. Great take on the prompt.

Great fun, and a lovely riff on "I'll never forget what's-his-name."

I would, respectfully, take issue with some of the artists mentioned here being classed as one-hit wonders. Numan, for instance, has remained very busy and his 21st album is released later this year. Devo are still very much with us even if Mark Mothersbaugh is in great demand as a composer of film scores for the likes of Wes Anderson. But let's face it, back in the days of Pilot and Sailor (remember "Glass of champagne?") having one song that was a hit would often set you up financially for the rest of your days. If only the music business was still as lucrative...
