Winter Wonder

When I was young
I looked forward to winter
The holiday season,
Playing in the snow

Now Christmas seems
Like an empty promise
The weather too cold
Or maybe I’m just old

Where is the wonder
I once knew
Where is the joy
My heart listened to?
To tell me it will be okay
It has flown so far away

Now trees are bare
The weather bitter
The gifts of winter
Have been misplaced

Love and compassion
Have left the building
Neither Santa, nor Jesus
Will show his face

Where is the wonder
I once knew
Where is the joy
My heart listened to?
To tell me it will be okay
It has flown so far away

Tragic!! But I believe wonder in this instance gets replaced by responsibility. This verse: Love and compassion Have left the building Neither Santa, nor Jesus Will show his face - is so sad. I hope some joy and woder appear this year.
A really good tale.

I'm a bit skirmished out myself, tried to motivate myself for this one, but not to be, not for now anyway hahah, but what a great prompt! and my sincere thanks for all the sunday ones this 50/90!

This is really great! quite a beautiful yet sad and poignant take on a different perspective of Winter Wonderland I'm sure a lot of us are feeling this year! Really nicely done!
When you do some music for this lemme know! would love to hear it!

Ahhh, such lovely and well written sad lyrics! Really powerful description of how the joy can fade away. The chorus is strong and drives home the message. Really nice take on the skirmish!

Oh this has such a melancholy and honest feeling that is sadly relatable. Very well articulated. It provokes speculation and reflection. Well done!

I like that you've got a Christmas vibe too. I didn't expect for others to also touch on a loss of wonder. Thank you for sharing.

A melancholy and thought-provoking lyric, I hope we're not in a post-wonder world.

Sad. Powerful, but sad.

Sad but very honest and heartfelt - lovely lyrics. I hope this winter brings some wonder (despite, you know, everything)!

There's such sadness in this lyric and you describe things that are relatable very nicely. "Where is the joy/my heart listened to" is a great line. There's lot of contemplation going on but they are asking questions, so there is hope too. Great flow to the lines.
