A stellar lyric by crisp1...thanks Doug...
I love the pun in your liner note, Gwyn! Stellar, indeed! This totally surprised me. Gwyn wrote a nice note about the lyrics then the next thing he's telling me he has a song done. And what a great song! Not at all what I thought someone might do with it, making it a double surprise. I've been admiring Gwyn's work all 50/90, so this is a really special treat. Thank you, Gwyn!
Thank YOU Doug for as I say...such a stellar lyric and your lovely response...
Lyrics:
Here I stand at midnight facing the rain
My feelings walk a bridge of spider silk
No one can see my lips
Quiver with loneliness
My heart is pushing up against the brink
The same stars whisper
To both of us
But you slipped,
Like darkness,
Through my hands
The same stars whisper
To both of us
But you slipped,
Like darkness,
Through my hands
Another morning sun climbs and I’m alone
Without love I can’t measure my full worth
A symphony of light
Plays across waking fields
I’m learning nothing turns away the hurt
The same stars whisper
To both of us
But you slipped,
Like darkness,
Through my hands
The same stars whisper
To both of us
But you slipped,
Like darkness,
Through my hands
A cold wind moans
And I’m desolate
A mountaintop the springtime sun forgot
A mountaintop the springtime sun forgot
The same stars whisper
To both of us
But you slipped,
Like darkness,
Through my hands
The same stars whisper
To both of us
But you slipped,
Like darkness,
Through my hands
But you slipped,
Like darkness,
Through my hands

So gorgeous! I so loved the lyric and this is tenderly done. Extraordinary you two!
Yes...great lyrics...thanks Cindy!
this is what a collaboation between bob dylan and ricky nelson might have sounded like . i love the way gwyn's voice is recorded. the music is gorgeous and the lyric so deeply romantic.
Dylan and Nelson! That would have been special...thanks again Bill...
Wow, Gwyn, this is terrific. Super collab, you two!
Thank you John!
Doug writes mighty fine lyrics and to my taste this is on of Gwyns best as well! A winner all around!
I agree about Doug's lyrics John...thanks!
Inspired stuff, guys. The lyric is as is to be expected wonderful, and the sentiment really suits the 50s balled style treatment. In a way, I could imagine this being sung in the Roadhouse at the end of an episode of Twin Peaks, while some bittersweet drama plays out (and, yes, just before something really f**ked up happens, but that's TP).
Great piano work too, Gwyn!
Thank you and love the TP reference!
This is such a phenomenal song! I really love the poetic images and sentiment so creatively delivered in these beautiful lyrics. That is an amazing chorus. The wonderful music treatment and perfectly nuanced vocals feel so heartfelt and bring the lyrics alive. This is a brilliantly matched collaboration!
Thank you so much Elizabeth!
Gwyn, you've commented before on my "amusing" comments--but (sort of) seriously, my initial reaction every time I hear you start singing on one of these is "Dammit! It is SO UNFAIR to have such a great voice!" You have been blessed, my friend. Just a fantastic song and the lyrics are perfect for what you are able to do!
You flatter me Sir and I thank you for it! Ironically...my most successful tracks (financially at least) are instrumentals but that's another story...I always appreciate what you say Jerry!
Nice job, both. This feels 50s-esque (reading above comments, I see I'm not the only one!), though not overly so. Mournful, but keeps you bopping along. Lovely vocal!
Thank so much!
