AndyGetch: @wacha and I have both been posting album covers on social media so an omage song seemed natural. We settled on writing a song about Joan Jett since we both have seen her live and have her music. I was mowing the grass in the morning and an idea for the last part of the chorus popped in my head. We traded a few emails and by the end of the day we had a song. While I love and cherish every collaboration I do, this is one of very few collaborations I have been involved in where I and the collaborator both wrote lyrics, recorded music tracks, and sang. This was so much fun!

Wacha: I'm so glad @andygetch came to me with this idea, it was mostly Andy but added a few lines and had a blast singing and drumming on it. I loved the concept when he mentioned it to me and was thrilled with what he came up with. This was a really fun time!

Words and Music by Catherine Wacha and Andy Getch

Verse 1
I’ve got an eclectic music collection
From bargain bin thrift stores
Or gifts from the neighbor
Spinning vinyl from every direction
While I’m doing house chores
Or scrolling the rage book

Chorus 1
Still it seems like I’m missing out
I wanna wail on guitar
I wanna jump and shout
even though it hasn't happened yet
I know my life would be better
If I could write, sing, and, play like Joan Jett

Verse 2
My life is getting stranger these days
Compared to when I went
To Joan Jett concerts
Prescriptions and treatments put me in a haze
I’m so sorry to vent
Just want to be remembered

Chorus 2
Still it seems like I’m missing out
I wanna wail on guitar
I wanna jump and shout
My life will be as good as it gets
I know that things would be better
If I could write, sing, and, play like Joan Jett

Verse 3
I still dream I see my name on the marquee
Being the opening act
At a Joan Jett concert
I’d hit the stage every night
With my band, it would be just right
Standing up in those lights
All our sets would be so tight
With a little luck this will happen for me
Practicing with my cats
To attract a corporate sponsor

Chorus 3
Still it seems like I’m missing out
I wanna wail on guitar
I wanna jump and shout
Maybe someday Joan and I will sing a duet
I know the world would be better
If I could write, sing, and, play like Joan Jett

Outro (repeat and fade)
I know that things would be better
If I could write, sing, and, play like Joan Jett
I know my life would be better
If I could write, sing, and, play like Joan Jett

This is great! I really like the minimalistic arrangement. Fantastic harmonies, and I like the chorus a lot.

OK, now I'm going to have to go down the following rabbit hole--what with being a Joan Jett fan myself: It's my recollection that she used to be in a band called The Runaways that did a song "Cherry Bomb" (also covered by Joan), which was a girl group featuring a bunch of jail baity young girls--one of whom was an actress in a dar, dark movie I saw back the 70s (?) or 80s. Anyway...now I have to figure out what that movie was.

In any event--thanks for the reminder of a great artist who established that women can be rockers too! Great song and great performance thereof.

Oh, she's my heroine, so I really dig this one a lot! It's so fun. I was 9 in 1981 when I heard her cover The Arrows' song, I Love Rock and Roll. I knew right then and there, I'd eventually play electric guitar. I began my musician journey with organ, piano, and choir though, haha, but I did start playing electric guitar at age 36.

This is great fun. I don't know which of you wrote "I wanna wail on guitar / I wanna jump and shout" but that sums up the rock and roll ethos perfectly. And I love rock and roll, so put another - well, you know the rest. Joan is a badass.

i was never into joan jett at the time of the runaways and the early blackhearts but when i finally saw her live circa 2004,(https://www.seattlepi.com/ae/music/article/Joan-Jett-fires-up-her-guitar-and-the-crowd-with-1140736.php) she impressed me as being as essentual as lou reed, who she resembled in many ways. this is great collaboration that suggests the impact certain rock stars have on own self images, andthe degrees to which tthey define us and our relation to society.

Catchy, fun, and I think this is my favorite 50/90 song! I have always been a fan of Joan Jett! She puts on one hell of a show and she just keeps rockin' year after year after year! A++++ collaboration!!!! Love, love, love this!
