Trembling

Liner Notes:

I'm pretty sure no one will guess whose style I'm making a vain attempt at copying here, but I'm still counting it for the Week 7 challenge.

The way I've used it in the lyric, the title word, trembling, has three syllables -- tremble-ing.

Let me know if you're interested in turning it into a song!

Thanks,
Doug

NOTE: Corey has asked to set this to music.

Lyrics:

[Verse 1]
They burn the beggar’s clothes
It’s no skin off your nose
But something in you shows
The crime caught you off guard

So much you would discard
You’re anti avant-garde
But the only things planted
Planted in your yard

[Chorus]
Are the bones of someone
Who was never here
The bones of someone
Who was never here
The bones of someone
Who was never here
You say you have no fear
And yet you’re trembling

[Verse 2]
The eye you turn is blind
But I can read your mind
You know you won’t be fine
The evidence is stark

Explorers in the dark
They swore they hit the mark
But it turns out what’s missing
Missing from the ark

[Chorus]
Are the bones of someone
Who was never here
The bones of someone
Who was never here
The bones of someone
Who was never here
You say you have no fear
And yet you’re trembling

[Bridge]
Wrestling with your better angels
Drives you to confusion
What if, what if, what if, what if
It’s all an illusion?

[Instrumental]

The only things they need
They need to hit the mark

[Chorus]
Are the bones of someone
Who was never here
The bones of someone
Who was never here
The bones of someone
Who was never here
You say you have no fear
And yet you’re trembling

The bones of someone
Who was never here
The bones of someone
Who was never here
The bones of someone
Who was never here
You say you have no fear
And yet you’re trembling

[Outro]
Trembling
(Repeat 6X or to fade out)

Steely Dan? Honestly I have no idea, but the Dan came to my mind as I read it. Big ups!

Progress made on our collab too!

Mate, the story you tell in this lyric is fantastic. May I put music to this Smile (Hmmm, Steely Dan, great idea)

Ooh, this is great. Delightfully dark and catchy. I don't know who you were trying to emulate, but I could see this done in a Nick Cave style.
