Ballad of the magic fridge
(I use the term "ballad" very loosely here Wink )

I finally did another song! Smile
It really took me some time.

Basically a song about ambiguity.
On one hand we rigorously destroy our ecosystem,
on the other hand we desperately want to protect it.
I had this idea of a refridgerator that's infinite in size and capacity, while simultanously is too small (seemingly) to keep some vegetable diversity and basically IS the world we are living in - as a symbol for exactly that kind of ambiguity...
Also I liked the refrigerator as a metaphor (as opposed to e.g. a glasshouse, which would have also worked, technically) for the industialized times we live in.

This time I wanted to do something I did when I began playing my own music - doing some dissonant out of tune noise guitar,
but still going for a nice (?) melody and something worthy to listen to instead of total chaos.
At the time I excessively did such songs I was heavily influenced by Sonic Youth...
I guess, I mixed that noisy out of tune stuff with my own more singer-/songwriter writing style later on.
Sometime I abandoned this stuff, hardly tuned my guitar another way than regular EADGBE.
I guess I simply became too lazy ;-D...

I did two out of tune guitars, some distorted vocals, a bass line and (to my surprise) pleasantly somewhat realistic sounding midi drums - this time I really tried to archieve some kind of drums, a real drummer would actually be capable to perform...

Unfortunetly the lyrics being peppered with all kinds of German plays on words, it is diffucult to translate the text into english with all its finesse.
Some of these just don't really work in English...
Anyway - I want to try:

I'm hungry, I'm eating and I'm throwing food away.
I destroy and protect our ecosystem.
It is important to me and no matter what the world thinks of me
and the main thing is, we reproduce.

I plant, I sow and then I kill again.
Yes, I give life and ask for it back.
There is no room for this in the infinite refrigerator
But the main thing is, everyone will still be satisfied.

We live in a giant refrigerator
we live in an infinite refrigerator.
Help yourself, serve me - forever, forever ...

I destroy and raise up other peoples*
and I only use evil to do good.
It is right and wrong what the majority thinks
but the main thing is that the sun shines.

The magic refrigerator spans the world
and becomes fuller even if it becomes emptier.
The magic refrigerator spans the world
and becomes fuller even if it becomes emptier.

We live in a giant refrigerator
we live in an infinite refrigerator.
Help yourself, serve me - forever, forever ...

The magic refrigerator spans the world
and becomes fuller even if it becomes emptier.

* the original German line "Ich vernichte und richte andere Völker auf" would have a totally different meaning if I left out the "auf" at the end - that's why I did that little pause in my singing there...
Witout the "auf" it would translate to:
I destroy and judge other peoples

Lyrics:

Very good 'ballad'. I like the perspective that what we survive on, passes through that coolskrank.
Nice dynamics in and between the parts of the song,

This works for me! I really like the way it clangs along. It's oddly catchy, with a hooky melody amidst the dissonance. I share Graceville's thoughts about the dynamics. There's a lot of cool stuff going on and a great arrangement

Oh yeah you got some lovely lovely dissonance goin on here for sure.
Super catchy despite the aforementioned awesome dissonance.
Great anguished vocal performance.
That guitar solo is really working for me.
Really great tune you've made.

I know it probably sounds lazy and stereotypical to compare this with classic "krautrock" but honestly, it reminds me of some of the more interesting stuff by Amon Düül 2, which is pretty much the only band from that scene i have heard (well, Can and Kraftwerk, but this doesn't sound like them!).

I mean it is more modern and punk and indie than Amon Düül 2, so i suppose it is a bit lazy. I liked it anyway. Reminds me of some of the indie stuff from the early nineties actually as well, back when there were loads of indie labels and lots of interesting stuff coming out.
