Liner Notes:

Got matched up with @crisp1 in the random collab challenge, he sent me a couple of lyrics and I chose this
I did some minor tweaks to the chorus to make it easier for me to sing

This is the results, a bit more different than I had planned out, I have never really made anything that has been reggae influenced before, the chorus is a bit inspired by Dave Berman/Silver Jews, and the verse vocals is in the style of Andi Grace Adieu from my labelmates, Meta Forever

Yamaha SA50T electric guitar (Strymon Flint and Strymon Capistan into a Fender Princeton clone, Shin-ei Superfuzz for the solo)
Moog Prodigy (synth bass)
Roland CR78 drum machine (midi retrofitted, doesn't always work but had a good day today)
vocoded 808 drum samples
Sigma Hummingbird acoustic guitar
Korg Minilogue
Cabassa, shaker and caxixi percussion

Doug: This is not a typical lyric for me and Thomas has put together a song unlike any collaboration I've done before, which is fitting. Lots of creativity in this and a great solo. Thanks, Thomas!

Lyrics:

Spear
Lyric by Doug Haberman (crisp1)

Sirens are wailing
A baby’s crying
The freeway hum is a calming noise
But my love of sound is dying

Why did you leave me?
Unboiling kettle
I bite my tongue and can sense the blood
With a taste of heavy metal

Objects in mirror aren’t closer than they appear
We started at the front
Now you’re far back in the rear
Farewell
I feel as relevant
As a 21st century soldier
With a spear

No music moves me
I hate the ocean
I took from you what you thought you’d keep
But I gave you my devotion

More good than bad days
I thought we’d make it
Our love was fine, just like porcelain
Then you had to go and break it

Objects in mirror aren’t closer than they appear
We started at the front
Now you’re far back in the rear
Farewell
I feel as relevant
As a 21st century soldier
With a spear

(Instrumental)

Objects in mirror aren’t closer than they appear
We started at the front
Now you’re far back in the rear
Farewell
I feel as relevant
As a 21st century soldier
With a spear

With a spear
(2X)

This really cool. I really like the way the vocals change between verse and chorus. The solo sound is wonderful. The prompt are perfectly matched to the style. A great collaboration

Whoa this is a really great song! It does a total shift from verse to chorus that is so smooth! There is such a unique feel to the instrumental and vocals on here. Love the chorus melody here, and the addition keyboards. I really enjoyed this song! Great job both of you!

Not a reggae fan, but this is really good. Solo sounds oh so nice. The chorus is so unexpected (lightens the whole mood), but it works well, particularly the vocals. And "I hate the ocean" is a unique lyric!

Well this came together beautifully. The contrast from verse to the chorus bring together two very appealing approaches. I'm a fan of Berman (RIP) and think you nailed it, there. So lovely. The verses are intensely emotional and build for a HUGE moment when the chorus drops. So good. The angst of the protagonist reminds me of Cowboy Dan (Modest Mouse) but it's very original, I just see a parallel because this type of thing is rarely characterized.
