Liner Notes:

It's always a pleasure to collaborate with Doug. The music for his lyrics writes itself. I only have to record it. Wink
I wanted to add more instruments: mandola, electric guitar etc. but then decided to upload the first rough mix with no editing / pitch shifting or other gimmicks.

Instruments:
EZdrummer, Electric Bass, Acoustic guitar (doubled), several layers of vocals

Doug: I love this! It's always great to have Stephan turn one of my lyrics into a song. This one really does feel like the music and words were written together -- a perfect blend with an easy-to-sing chorus. Thanks, Stephan!

Lyrics:

The old-time sunsets lit the sky
With colors shooting joy into your bones
But now as soon as night descends
You kick the darkness and go home

You spend too long remembering
Times that won’t return
When you reach out to the fire
Do you feel the warmth
Or burn?

If friends like me should call you up
You carp about your little aches and pains
You say your life is draining you
But you make losses of your gains

You spend too long remembering
Times that won’t return
When you reach out to the fire
Do you feel the warmth
Or burn?

Today’s world has a lot worth hating
And the past is more intoxicating
The farther away you get, the better it looks
But that’s just an illusion, sweetheart
Like a secret message in an eye chart
I hope
I hope
I hope that you’re not hooked

You spend too long remembering
Times that won’t return
When you reach out to the fire
Do you feel the warmth
Or burn?

I love the message in this. I have felt this and then changed my mind about the now. Love the vocals and all the instruments and feel it's wonderful as is

Oh, I love those vocal harmonies. I like that key change on the second to last stanza. Really awesome elements in this collaboration!

I relate to this lyric so much, it's so easy to long for a past that wasn't usually exactly how it's remembered - a great way to avoid the now. Nice instrumental setting as well, I really like the folk-rock groove and easy sounding vocal.

Guys - this is a great tune. I mean, I'm reminded of AM radio when I was younger (that's a compliment by the way) and music just had a different kind of magic and feel to it. Keep doing more of this...
