Liner Notes:

A critical song (in German) about the seemingly endless possiblities of our digital age (digital planet; even digital reality?!),
or more so about the ever growing dependance on it.
Because: Somehow we are dependent superhumans (German: Abhängige Übermenschen).

I don't know why i came up with this subject particularly - maybe watching myself spending (too) much time on my phone (?)
but I guess I really wanted to do something with the (in my opinion) neat title, it being subtly ironic.

I wrote this tune on the e-guitar, originally being somewhat mellow.
Somehow, recording it via cubase and incorporating my signiture unstable screaming-singing voice,
a neat bassline, (midi)-drums (plus real life clamp ring) and a quiet synth underlining the guitar,
it turned out a bit more aggressive than I originally had planned.

English translation of the lyrics:

Dependent superhumans staring at the screen,
on the online shopping tour and in both ears
The internet connection with the whip in hand,
drives them inexorably to self-circumcision
They have all the knowledge in the world
and are overfeeded daily with convenience; they are:

Superhuman and yet dependent
and in constant belief in the update god
They uproot thoughts
and just prepare the new ones

The crown of all creation -
Dependent superhuman who can do everything
as long as they are networked; are improved.

Dependent superhumans often change rooms,
without having to get up - like magic
They are full of sparkle of completely senseless function,
but mostly don't really know what they're doing.
They have all the solutions in the world
as long as at least the machine dictates; they are:

Superhuman and yet dependent
and in constant belief in the update god
They uproot thoughts
and just prepare the new ones

The crown of all creation -
Dependent superhuman who can do everything
as long as they are networked; are improved.

They believe themselves to be independent and freer than ever
but only as long as the machine works
We believe us independently and more freely than ever
but only as long as the machine works; we are

Superhuman and yet dependent
and in constant belief in the update god
We uproot the thoughts
and just prepare the new ones

Dependent Superhumans
We are dependent superhumans

Lyrics:

From your description I was expecting a Ramstien esque song!! The rhythm and instruments are perfect and your screamy vocals just add to this as a song. A brilliant track. I’m glad you explained what it was about, my German is non existent.

Thank you for your kind words! Smile
I really appreciate your comment - I was not expecting someone actually commenting on a song of mine (also because of the language barrier), so I happily read it.

Hmm, I guess I did exaggerate a bit when I wrote how "aggresive" the song turned out to be...
I think It really isn't that aggressive after all...
At least compared with something like Rammstein Biggrin

I like to think of it a bit more in punk territory, although that doesn't fit that much either, or does it?

Also thank you for the kind words on my singing reassuring me that it's not that out of place and fitting in the "musical universe" I tried to achieve.

I'm a fan of your unstable screaming. This is really cool. I like the way you bring it down in places and then rock it out. Love the way you sing übermenschen! Great tune all around--and an awesome title/concept

Thank you very much! Smile
I'm not always so sure about my singing, sometimes it seems a bit "out of control", so I'm glad you liked it and enjoyed the so-to-speak-of dynamics I did with the singing.

I really shoud translate the lyrics sometime so you can see/read how I actually lyricly worked with title and concept. But for now, again thank you! Smile

Oh, mal was auf Deutsch. Ich mag deinen Gesang. Sehr sogar.

i really like it.. had that old school punk feel but very current at the same time. i ran the lyrics through google translate and i like the concept of the song and the punchy style of the phrases. nice one Smile

Alex von Gestern's picture

Thank you! Smile I'm glad you like the concept and the style of the phrases although you had to put it in the google translator!
I'm sorry I firstly did no proper translation - but finally I put a "valid" one on the 50/90 songpage...
although the google translator one is relatively accurate ;-D

There's a real punk quality to this. Satirical!

People love building their identities. What else do you have? I'd like to find out what's left when you get rid of your identity. No clothes, no knowledge, no better than... just whatever's left.

Great energy! Please, write more!

I am often frustrated by people; we have so much potential and yet we spend so much time messing about on the Internet.
I really like this one.
You have made a catchy song that also feeds my need for weirdness and noise.
I'm liking your vocals.
Excellent lyrics (in English, at least).
Well done!
