Liner Notes:

Very artsy-fartsy but very depressing lyric. Think it might work best with upbeat, "happy" music that has a wistful twist to it.

Super weird structure for this and I'm not 100 percent sure of the prosody but we can work on that if you'd like to set it to music. Each verse has 3 parts and each part has its own rhythm.

Cheers,
Doug

Lyrics:

Verse 1

A
I’m the foam of the sea
A lone grain of salt…
Or of beach sand

B
A single strand of hair
One hand listless in the air
The space between planets

C
One whole note that’s vanished
Hollow lines
That banish value from a poem
One thin glint of morning

(Pre-chorus)
That’s how unimportant I feel
Shrunken to nothing

(Chorus)
Nothing to you
Nothing to me
Just a ghost of a whisper
I am…
Nothing to anyone
(2X)

Verse 2

A
I’m a snowflake that drifts
A rain drop that clings
To a grim sky

B
A mind’s eye half open
A word left unspoken
A token “forgive me”

C
A footstep with no print
I’m a well
That never catches any wishes
A star long extinguished

(Pre-chorus)
That’s how unimportant I feel
Shrunken to nothing

(Chorus)
Nothing to you
Nothing to me
Just a ghost of a whisper
I am…
Nothing to anyone
(2X)

Verse 3

A
I’m the patience of youth
A truth that is false
And a cold sun

B
An hour in your nighttime
The fine lie of “so long”
That gives rise to silence

C
A moment in your dreams
I’m a rung
At the bottom of your ladder
A drop with no water

(Pre-chorus)
That’s how unimportant I feel
Shrunken to nothing

(Chorus)
Nothing to you
Nothing to me
Just a ghost of a whisper
I am…
Nothing to anyone
(Repeat to fade out)

Well, I suppose one couldn't get any lower than what you have working in this narrative. I wouldn't necessarily call it artsy-fartsy, but it does carry that "classic angst" vibe. Still, it's distinctively visual and yeah - the structure is a little tricky, it still works!

Some really excellent lines in here! The well that doesn't catch wishes - creative metaphor

Challenging to be sure, but that leaves it open for some interesting things music-wise. Love all your verses--such strong metaphors!

Atoms, relative to their size, are as far away from each other as stars. So, maybe we really are nothing. A show of smoke and mirrors. Something that looks like something. Does the universe make up something else that looks like something?

This is a very interesting song. Once you start to think about stuff like this... it might get scary because unknown is scary. And the other side of it is... do we exist without a relationship to something else? If a tree falls down and nobody is witnessing it...

I like this. So thought-provokin!

Interesting lyrics to read and to imagine sang/said. Hope to hear them.
