Liner Notes:

In 2007, I co wrote the screenplay and soundtrack for a film that was never produced. There was a scene when a group of friends entered a bar where a band was playing, so I had to write something for them to play. It didnt have be a whole song, so I wrote this chorus. It remained half stuck in my head and I have been meaning to finish it.. I finally got around to doing that, even though I cant remember exactly how the chorus went. I got the feel of the first lines though, and that was the hook.

Lyrics:

The girl before the girl he married
Was the girl he really loved
The girl before the girl he married
Was the girl he really loved
But she broke his heart
So he moved on

I dont break for heartaches
I got no sympathy at all
For those who fling their broken hears
Against a sient wall

The girl before the girl he married
Was the girl he really loved
The girl before the girl he married
Was the girl he really loved
But she broke his heart
So he moved on

Love is not a game
Of give and take
Nor is it a soft place to fall
Love is a promise...thats all

The girl before the girl he married
Was the girl he really loved
The girl before the girl he married
Was the girl he really loved
But she broke his heart
So he moved on

Love is not a question
It is neither true nor false
Love is a promise....thats all
Thats all.
Thats all

The girl before the girl he married
Was the girl he really loved
The girl before the girl he married
Was the girl he really loved
But she broke his heart
So he moved on

This is so catch and memorable!. That first line pulled me in. Too bad the movie was never produced. If it had been people would remember this song!

That’s beautiful! So relatable and why it caught my attention. “The guy before the guy she married...” Love stories like that.

Good title! That chorus is very catchy, can hear it playing in the background! Very good angle on the this! Its all a bit of a card deal sometimes! You throw away then realise you needed it! Then just have to play the hand left (hm might have my own song now Smile

The opening couplet is already the saddest thing. And that's a great rhythm there out the outset...sort of danceable. I don't break for heartache is a great line. And that "love is not a question" verse is really strong too

I really liked the ending. That "so he moved on" line is heartbreaking in the matter of fact way you sing it

I like the chorus first and it is strong. Would be catchy in a bar with that pop feel.

I guess distance brings wisdom. You never know what comes next. You make it sound personal and yet professionaly universal. Still makes me feel like an old Beatles song grown old.
