Prompt: what you’re afraid of

Lyrics:

I’m Afraid

V1
I’m afraid of snakes
with elliptical eyes
I’m afraid of death
caused by tsetse flies

I’m afraid of nights
with thundering skies
I’m afraid of truth
hidden in your eyes

C
there’s many different fears
I’ve experienced
over the years

the only one always near
is one of losing you
my love, my dear

V2
I’m afraid of germs
people share every day
I’m afraid of guns
used by those gone astray

I’m afraid of heights
in tall towers that sway
I’m afraid of when
you will go away

C
there’s many different fears
I’ve experienced
over the years

the only one always near
is one of losing you
my love, my dear

B
I know we can’t promise
futures we don’t own
but my hope is that
we’ll never let go...

C
there’s many different fears
I’ve experienced
over the years

the only one always near
is one of losing you
my love, my dear

*sigh* the universal fear of being left/abandoned - thats a very tough one to live with Sad I think the bridge is my fav part of the lyric, especially the first two lines of it.
I would love to hear this musicated, please let me know if this happens Smile

Sensing a fear of abandonment coming through in a number of these tracks...
Strong lyric as always! Great cataloguing of fears in the verses.

Ah yes so often the way! Lyrical has a really good flow. Very complete! Nice skirmish.

Ah yes, loss of the SO. That is so much a biggie. I like the list comparison to that fear.

What a great idea and flow. I feel the thought of that loss!

Good list with number one at the top. It's a fine look at your perspective of fear. Sometimes it's easier to avoid snakes and germs than to keep a relationship alive. Well done skirmish.

Looking at the lyrics...I had to look up tsetse (some kind of African fly that feeds on blood). Yeah, the truth hidden in your eyes is the killer part of the first section...very nice. Ah, the chorus delivers the biggest fear...losing you. The bridge suggests the future is not guaranteed. Pretty good song!

Effective how you used all those other well-described very legit dangers that can cause worry to highlight/contrast the fear of losing someone as an even weightier concern. It also gave the song a lovely structural rhythm by the second verse. A very vulnerable statement overall. And of course there are many ways to lose someone. I like the way it’s stated in the bridge as a hope “we’ll never let go”. That’s the one where we might have some choice and power in the matter. Very nicely done!

I can hear a lighter musical accompaniment to the verse with a more serious backdrop to the chorus as you've done an excellent job of contrasting the two but making them work seamlessly. There's a lot to be concerned about, but only one real fear, it seems.

Very visual and symbolic lyrics with great lines. Catchy and universal.

As Alex I also see the fear of abandonment. Great thythm built in in the lyrics. Natural beat built in.
