Deanna says: I wrote this song in late June right before 50/90 started in a group called 5 in 5 Challenge. Someone else was going to use the lyrics, but backed out and Alex was kind enough to use them instead!

Still Life
Lyrics by Deanna Sweidel
Music by Alex Klages
(c) 2019
Photographs I’m staring at
Little frames of you and I
Frozen like a still life
Memories captured of a lie
I can’t keep staring at
Something lifeless on the wall
I’ve got to take some action
Because baby after all
It’s still life
I have to live
It’s still love
I have to give
If we’re not moving forward
I can’t stay here in the past
I won’t get left behind ‘cuz
It’s still life that’s moving fast
Photographs I’m staring at
Little frames of you and me
Inanimate still life
Remember false reality
I can’t keep staring at
Something lifeless on the wall
I’ve got to take some action
Because baby after all
It’s still life
I have to live
It’s still love
I have to give
If we’re not moving forward
I can’t stay here in the past
I won’t get left behind ‘cuz
It’s still life that’s moving fast
It’s still life
I have to live
It’s still love
I have to give
I’m finally moving forward
Because life it moves too fast
I won’t get left behind babe
Our still life is in the past

Fascinating how there's such an Americana vibe to both the lyrics and the arrangement. You two clearly work well together!!
So glad that Alex put these wonderful words to music - great nostalgic folk feel. Great chorus that brings optimism after a relationship ended. Love the positive spin and moving forward nature. Strong guitar and vocals drives home the the sentiment with conviction. Great collaboration.
I finally got back to this, after being so tired last night. What's not to love about this?
I love the use of the photograph image/metaphor in the lyric and the idea of "still life" and "it's still life." There is something about this melody and performance that draws me right in. Really cool.
i like the forward motion of the positive outlook and how the music carries it forth
I like the double meaning of "It's still life". Very clever. I also enjoyed "I can't stay here in the past." Good "pictures" in the lyric. I enjoyed the guitar and the vocal melody. It complements the lyric very well.
Great collaboration here! Love the way you move along with the music, then halt the guitar and sing the words, then pick it up again. Lends to a great feel!
