I Don't Kill Ants
Post date:

Demo:
Liner Notes:
I'm staying elsewhere right now, and the guitar has four strings. This is what I worked with...
A song about even little lives deserve to go undisturbed. You don't get to decide if it matters or not. You don't need to be mean.
Lyrics:
At last, I can put it all in the past
Or better yet, I could make myself forget
And I might not mean it, but I always say thanks
And I might be wrong when I fill the blanks
And I pull weeds but I don’t kill ants
So like it or not, I fight the fear
Yeah, like it or not, I’m here, I’m here,
Knee deep in the muddy banks
I pull weeds but I don’t kill ants
Come here, it’s been a rough old year
Settle in, to the place where you and I begin
And I might not mean it, but I always say thanks
And I might be wrong when I fill the blanks
And I pull weeds but I don’t kill ants
So like it or not, I fight the fear
Yeah, like it or not, I’m here, I’m here,
Knee deep in the muddy banks
I pull weeds but I don’t kill ants
Us two, we got some catching up to do
Better yet, let’s stay and watch the whole world set
I think you mean it when you say please
We’re not quite there but we’re planting seeds
And you never kill ants when you pull weeds
So like it or not, you’re pulling through
Yeah, like it or not, love, I am too
Knee deep in the muddy banks
Pulling weeds with cautious hands
So like it or not, I fight the fear
Yeah, like it or not, I’m here, I’m here,
Knee deep in the muddy banks
I pull weeds but I don’t kill ants
So like it or not, I fight the fear
Yeah, like it or not, I’m here, I’m here,
Knee deep in the muddy banks
I pull weeds but I don’t kill ants
I pull weeds but I don’t kill ants
I pull weeds but I don’t kill ants.

i can take this both literally and metaphorically. Either way it works. It is well written, with deep implitcations beneath its sometimes commonplace imagery, Your melodic variations keep the listener engaged, as well as your appealing delivery on both guitar and vocals.
This is really well done! The melody supports your lyrics very well, and the lyrics are especially gorgeous. "I pull weeds but I don't kill ants" is a killer line. Ooo, and the little harmonies toward the end are so lovely!
You have a sublimely sweet voice, and it is just perfect for this song
Love the sentiment of the lyrics, and the flowing melody expresses them really well.
Your music is just right in the pocket for me - I'd buy your album. Love everything, your vocals, the changes in melody and rhythm, the harmonies. The central concept is so beautiful, respect for the tiniest life. So impressed you did this with a broken guitar btw!
Compelling lyrics - I read those first. The repetition works really well.
And the song itself is lovely. I just listened to your latest and I had to hear another by you.
